Lyndhurst's New Train Station: What It Means for Buyers and Sellers
In June 2025, NJ Transit opened a new Lyndhurst station on the Main Line, replacing a station that had been in service for about a century. If you're thinking about buying or selling in Lyndhurst, here's what changed and why it matters for commuters.
What's new
Accessible design: the old station wasn't ADA compliant. The new one has high-level platforms, elevators, stairs and canopies over the platforms.
One station instead of two: the new station sits just east of the old Lyndhurst station, and nearby Kingsland station closed when it opened.
The investment: the project cost about $31 million and was funded by the Federal Transit Administration.
Getting to New York
From Lyndhurst, Main Line trains run to Secaucus Junction, where you can transfer to trains into Penn Station New York, and to Hoboken, where you can take the PATH or a ferry. Bus service also runs from town into the Port Authority. Check NJ Transit's current schedules, since the number of trains varies by time of day and weekday vs. weekend.
What it means for buyers and sellers
For buyers, the station is one more option to weigh alongside driving routes like Route 3, Route 17 and the Turnpike. When I show homes in Lyndhurst, I map the walk or drive to the station so buyers can picture their actual commute.
For sellers, distance to the train is a real feature to highlight in a listing, in plain, factual terms: how many minutes' walk, which line and where it connects. Buyers comparing towns along the Main Line and the Bergen County Line look for that kind of detail.
Selling in Lyndhurst? Don't forget the certificate
Lyndhurst requires a smoke detector and carbon monoxide alarm certificate from the Bureau of Fire Prevention before closing. The fee goes from $45 to $161 depending on how much notice you give, so apply as soon as you have a signed contract. My Lyndhurst guide has the details, along with property taxes and local links.
